Barcelona’s experimental underground scene of the early 1980s provided the setting for Error Genético, an avant-garde group active between 1981 and 1983. Bringing together Mireia Tejero on vocals and saxophone, Paloma Loring on guitar and vocals, Gat on bass, and Marcel·lí Antúnez Roca, the project explored the territory between experimental rock, free improvisation, electronic noise and performance art.
Their sound combined layered textures, recurring bass drones, unconventional percussion and bursts of brass that could recall the restless, horn-driven energy of Pigbag, while moving into stranger, more abstract territory. The group also incorporated synthesiser noise and metallic sounds into its performances, with an interest in the human body, illness and subjects rarely addressed in conventional music.
Alongside contemporaries such as Macromassa and Esplendor Geométrico, Error Genético formed part of Spain’s adventurous alternative music scene. Their activities extended beyond the usual format of a rock band, incorporating costumes, theatrical gestures and deliberately confrontational stage actions. In October 1982, they performed at the M.A.K. Festival at Rote Fabrik in Zurich, after submitting a manifesto and a tape outlining their experimental approach.
Their recording history includes the track “Tumor En La Frente,” featured on the 'Domestic Sampler UMYU' compilation in 1982. After the group ended its activities in 1983, further material appeared on 'Mapa 1981–1983', issued by Grand Mal in 1985, documenting a project that brought together experimental sound, improvisation and multidisciplinary performance.
