Derribos Arias

Derribos Arias was a Spanish post-punk band from the 1980s, framed in the cultural movement known as the "Movida Madrileña". Their sound, crude, chaotic, sometimes melodic and sometimes cacophonous, was influenced by post-punk, punk and psychedelia, as well as having an absurd humor component defined as dadaist or surreal. Derribos Arias was a product of the creativity of Poch (Ignacio María Gasca Ajuña), an extravagant, picturesque and excessive character. He is remembered as the protagonist of some of the most delirious episodes of the so-called "Movida Madrileña". Ejecutivos Agresivos was the first project of Poch with record transcendence (a sigle entitled "Mari Pili"). In Ejecutivos Agresivos participated musicians that later would integrate bands like Decima Victima or Gabinete Caligari. Poch later formed La Banda Sin Futuro with Alejo Alberdi, reconrding an unreleased album whose pirate copy, with songs like "Nos Van a Desinfectar", became a jewel for collectors.

Derribos Arias lasted from 1981 to 1987, but their recording activity ceased in 1984. In their golden years, 1983 and 1984, they recorded the EPs 'Branquias Bajo el Agua', 'A Fluor/Tupés en Crecimiento' and 'Aprenda Alemán en 7 Dias' and the album 'En la Guia, en el Listin'. All of them had excellent reviews in the music press and a relatively good public acceptance, considering how risky the proposal was. In 1984 they issued 'Disco Pocho', with worse reception. Soon afterwards became the dissolution of the band. In the mid-1980s, Poch was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease, a degenerative nervous system syndrome that disrupted cognition and mobility and led to his death in 1998. In 1991, Poch received a tribute from musicians, friends and admirers, and the result was a double album entitled 'El Chico Más Pálido de la Playa del Gros', a Derribos Arias and Poch songs compilation covered by bands such Siníestro Total, Negu Gorriak, Gabinete Caligari, Glutamato Ye-Yé or Fangoria.
