Golpes Bajos was a Spanish group born in 1982 in Vigo (Galicia), initially composed by Germán Coppini as vocalist and Teo Cardalda on keyboards, joined in 1983 by Pablo Novoa and Luis García. At that time, Coppini was vocalist of Siniestro Total, but he had connected with Cardalda, a former high school classmate who had unusual musical tastes and a great facility for music.
Cardalda's father decided, at his own risk, to send the demo that the group had recorded to a contest, which they won. After that, they signed up for Nuevos Medios, the gourmet label par excellence, recording an EP in which three of the songs of the demo were included, among them "No Mires a los Ojos de la Gente" and "Malos Tiempos para la Lirica". That EP surprised both by the maturity of the lyrics and the theatrical voice of Coppini, the undesired effect of a flu.
After the first works (the EP 'Golpes Bajos' in 1983 and the album 'A Santa Compaña'
in 1984), the group began to reap its first successes and to receive
wide recognition in the Spanish music scene: the band enjoyed the
approval of critics and audiences. In 1984 they received the Ícaro prize
for the best revelation group of Diario 16 and the prize for the best
group of the year granted by the Madrid-based Rock-Ola. It was then that
Coppini left Siniestro Total to devote himself exclusively to Golpes Bajos.
After the publication of the EP 'Devocionario', the founder duo decided to dissolve the group, dedicating themselves since then to other musical projects. In 1987 Coppini began his solo career, Cardalda founded Cómplices and García became part of Semen Up, while it was necessary to wait until the 90s to see Novoa again in action at La Marabunta.
In November 1997, Coppini and Cardalda met and offered new versions of the songs from their golden age on their 'Vivo' reappearance album, which they presented on a tour starting in March 1998. At this meeting they did not invite Luis García or to Novoa. At the end of the tour, which, like the record turned out to be a commercial failure, Cardalda decided to return to Cómplices, while Coppini resumed collaborations with other artists. Coppini used the repertoire of Golpes Bajos, with Maga as an accompaniment band, at a concert held in the El Sol hall in Madrid on January 23, 2006, within the La Movida Concert Series that commemorated the 25th anniversary of the "Movida Madrileña". Germán Coppini died at age 52 in Madrid, on December 24, 2013, due to liver disease. [SOURCE: WIKIPEDIA]
