The Rescuers

The Rescuers were a band from Madrid band formed in 1986 by Ramón Diez (vocals and guitar), Vicente Murillo (lead guitar), Francisco de la Calle “Patiñu” (bass), Julio de la Cruz (organ and backing vocals), Jesse Romeo (drums), and Gonzalo Grondona “Lagarto” (drums). The Rescuers emerged in the wake of the Spanish “garage sixties revival”, with bands such Sex Museum from Madrid and Los Negativos from Barcelona.

They won the prestigious Villa de Madrid Demo Contest in 1986, which led to them recording a four-song EP, allowing them to showcase in venues across Madrid and in Guadalajara or Bilbao. Entitled ‘If You Wanna Love Me’, it was released by Penetración Records. After participating in the first edition of the Villa de Bilbao Rock Contest in 1989, The Rescuers' musical adventure came to an end.

Paco de la Calle joined Los Potros and later The Holdens. In 2004, illness forced him to leave the stage for good, until his death. That same year, on December 12th, a tribute concert was held in his memory at the Rock Palace in Madrid, where The Rescuers reunited, sharing the stage with The Holdens and The Pleasure Fuckers, who also reunited to pay tribute to the bassist.
