Los Vegetales

Los Vegetales were a Spanish punk rock band, best known for their songs other bands recorded than for their own. Formed in 1985 by Juan Carlos Aured ("Kid Guindilla", voice and guitar), Mauro Canut ("Bazoka Nut", guitar) and Nacho Canut ("Chili Taco", bass) as an act to support Los Nikis. They did not publish any record, although it is known that they recorded in 1993 an album that never saw the light. In 1996, the label Subterfuge released a compilation with all theor demos (one from 1985, two from 1986, one from 1987 and one from 1988).

In their songs, they make numerous references to comics ("Estela Plateada" (Silver Surfer), "Vampirella" and "Marte Exige Carne") and movies ("Atraco A Las Tres", "Jaws" in "Tiburón XIII", "A Nightmare on Elm Street" in "Gallinas Gigantes Con Metralletas", "Friday The 13th Part III" in "Vampirella"). It is noteworthy that one of the biggest hits of Alaska Y Dinarama, "Mi Novio Es Un Zombi", is a cover of Los Vegetales' "Mi Novia Es Una Zombi", and that the album from which the single ('Fan Fatal') was extracted, has other three versions of them ("Vampirella", "La Ciencia Avanza" and "La Pastilla Roja").

On the other hand, they composed a song for Terry IV titled "Elvis Me Telefoneó" (later covered by Los Intronautas and La Monja Enana). Los Intronautas also covered "17 Años", and together with Fangoria, "Sueño Número 7". They also recorded at least one song from another group: "El Sol De California" ("California Sun" by The Rivieras).

After the dissolution of the group, Juan Carlos Aured emigrated to the United States, where he created a reputation like producer of rap groups and currently has a recording studio in Madrid. The brothers Mauro and Nacho Canut formed Los Intronautas. Today Mauro is part, along with Joaquín from Los Nikis, of the band Los Acusicas. Nacho Canut, who had already been part of bands like Kaka de Luxe, Alaska Y Los Pegamoides, Paralisis Permanente and Alaska Y Dinarama, concentrated on his other project: Fangoria.
